US 1 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Evaluation
Howard County, MD

US 1 is a principal arterial roadway serving commercial, residential and institutional land uses, in an economically disadvantaged area of the County with a higher than average pedestrian crash rate.   Sabra Wang identified and developed safety enhancements along the 11 mile segment within the County to facilitate improved pedestrian safety, accessibility and support economic development.

  • Identification of planned developments and private sector transportation improvements
  • Development of toolbox of engineering design/ operations, enforcement and educational safety strategies
  • Concept development for signal upgrades, new marked crosswalks, refuge islands, new sidewalks/ side paths, lighting, access management, traffic calming, and upgraded pedestrian crossing traffic control
