SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, was responsible for the design of the deteriorated stringers and lateral bracing per recent bridge inspection and evaluations, designing the repair details for all deteriorated steel members including, but not limited to: bascule girders, floor beams, stringers, stiffeners, steel grid deck, concrete repairs to the piers that enclose the bascule girder machinery, roof replacements for the operator’s house as well as replacement of architectural features such as doors and windows.
The two (eastbound and westbound) 200-foot bascule bridges consist of four leaves, each complete with wind bracing, SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company,y framing, center-locking machinery, and finger joints. All leaves were rehabilitated with new open grid decks, traffic barriers, and purlins, while floor beams, stringers, wind bracing, and SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company,y framing were only replaced as necessary.
Additionally, SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, prepared painting plans, details, and notes for all new and existing steel members. SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, also provided specifications, engineering estimates and post award services which included meetings, shop drawing review, and field construction inspection services about two days per week for period of 12 months.
