SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, is responsible for the design and implementation of Transit Signal Priority (TSP) on 250 high frequency buses that are crossing more than 700 signalized intersections throughout the City of Baltimore as part of a complete overhaul of Baltimore’s bus transit system. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has added 12 new high-frequency bus routes called CityLINK throughout the Baltimore region. To increase the speed, efficiency and reliability of transit in Baltimore, one aspect of the program was to add Transit Signal Priority. The project consists of approximately 130 intersections on 6 major arterials in the City, including Greenmount / York & Loch Raven (Phase 1); North Avenue (Phase 2); and Liberty & Belair (Phase 3). Phase 1 is complete; Phase 2 and 3 are underway and will be completed this year.
